about us
Who we are
We are an evangelical Christian community located in the Mitcham Hills area of Adelaide, South Australia, gathering at present in the hall at 560 Goodwood Road, Daw Park, in the Colonel Light Gardens Uniting Church building. We believe that the gospel of Jesus Christ changes lives and we are His hands and feet in the world.
What we believe
Consistent with our Uniting Church identity, Mitcham Hills Church holds to a reformed, evangelical and historically orthodox view of the Christian faith. The confessional substance of our beliefs can be found in the Basis of Union. Most importantly, we believe that:
God is Father, Son and Holy Spirit one God, known in three persons, and is defined by the dynamic and loving interaction between those three persons. God is Love. (1 John 4:8)
The Bible, including both the Old and New Testaments, is the inspired Word of God.
On the Cross Jesus made an all-sufficient sacrifice for the sins of the world, and that when we confess him as Lord and believe God raised him from the dead, we are saved from eternal judgement and receive the promise of eternal life (new life) in him. (Romans 10:9)
The church is the Priesthood of all believers, where every member of the church has gifts given by the Holy Spirit and for which there is a corresponding service.
The church, empowered by the Holy Spirit, has an Acts 1:8 mandate and a Matthew 28 commission to witness to Jesus and go and make disciples of all the world.
our values
We have five core values that we believe are essential to being the church community that God has called us.
Declare Jesus is Lord
Engage with the bible for life change
Focus beyond ourselves
Build relationships that matter
Empower people to lead
the uniting church
Mitcham Hills Church is a congregation of the Uniting Church in Australia (UCA). The UCA was formed in 1977 by the coming together of the Presbyterian, Methodist and Congregational churches. The missional and ecumenical vision of the UCA is beautifully articulated in the Basis of Union, a brief document you can read here:
The Basis of Union ( 1992 Edition )
The UCA has a reformed and evangelical theological heritage, with John Wesleys sermons and the Westminster Confession amongst its confessional documents.
The UCA is a uniquely Australian church with more than 2000 congregations, social welfare agencies and iconic ministries like Frontier Services, which serves remote and rural families and indigenous people. You can find out more about the UCA here:
